I’ve just added the wonderful photographs that Katie Leonard took of the collection of hats I have just finished to my website. Inspired by Japanese toyo, a wonderful paper material which is woven just like straw, for a lightweight flexible environmentally friendly alternative to natural straw.
I’ve named it the origami collection as the hats are made almost entirely from paper. The hats are trimmed with origami kudsudama flowers folded from the pages of a Japanese teen mag, butterflies hand-cut from archival paper, paper roses hand constructed petal by petal, edging ribbon made from lacey edged paper strips.
Big thank you to my beautiful model, Alia and to Katie for being such a wonderful photographer. Click the image to see more.
