art for pitties
My mother was surprised when I expressed a desire to support a charity working towards the care and rehabilitation of pit bulls. Since a friendly lick from an enormous dog as a toddler nearly knocked me off my feet and left me with a rash that looked like 3rd degree burns I’ve been verging on petrified of large dogs. But as I pointed out to her my fear of the animals is all the more reason to support people whose goal is to make sure that abused pit bulls naturally loving nature is revived. I can think of nothing better than my fears being completely unjustified!
So in support of Even Chance Art for Pitties rallied a group of artists and designers to create one off art bags (and other art pieces) to be auctioned off on Ebay charities. Over 40 got involved and you can read about each one at the Art for Pitties website The bags are wonderful, in a lovely array of styles,
techniques and colours. Some people like me created their bags from scratch while others painted onto the lovely raw cotton totes provided by the organisers. Check out the results on ebay

My bag is made from rough textured olive cotton with simple brown handles adorned with a ribbon rossette, which I made with a pin back - so when it’s not decorating the bag you can wear it on your fall blazer or hatband, only one bid on it so far - so it’s still a bargain, and Art for Pitties is sending out a lovely ceramic (dog?) bowl to all the winning bidders.
The other bag pictured is the one I am bidding on - by Mary Timmons - so don’t bid on that one - it’s mine!!! The picture above is of my baby girl coming out to support the pit bulls at the project launch. Her Daddy has sworn he’ll be doing everything he can to make sure my fear of dogs is not passed on to the next generation.
